The Protein Works Whey Protein 80 – Analysis

Review of the Whey Protein 80 supplement from The Protein Works brand

The Protein Works is a recent brand from the United Kingdom, which is starting to stand out more and more with interesting products, such as Whey Protein 80.

This supplement, as the name suggests, is a whey protein supplement, in its concentrated form.

It is available in four different sizes, they are: 500g, 1000g, 2000g and 4000g.

Furthermore, it is available in lots of flavors, but we are going to bet on the unflavored version to carry out this analysis.

Ingredients

The ingredients in this supplement are few, more specifically three, they are:

  • Concentrated whey protein
  • Aminogen
  • Soy lecithin

You already know what concentrated whey protein is, and if you don't, check out our guide here.

As for Aminogen, it is a digestive enzyme that will theoretically help with the digestion of protein.

We say theoretically because the brand does not mention the amount of Aminogen used in the formula, so we don't know if it is an effective dose or not.

As for soy lecithin, it is an emulsifier.

Nutritional value

These are the values presented by the brand on its official website.

25g 100g
Proteins 20.6g 82.4g
Carbohydrates 1.5g 6g
Fats 1.8g 7.2g

In the first column we find the values for one dose/scoop, which is 25 grams, and in the second the typical values for each 100g of product.

This supplement has a protein content of 82.4%, a very good value for a concentrated whey, and higher than many of the protein supplements we have already analyzed.

With this concentration, we have 20.6g of protein per shake, which after training comes in really handy!

As for the carbohydrate and fat values, they are within the normal range for a good concentrated whey supplement.

Aminogram

aminogram

This is the aminogram provided by the brand, and presents the amino acid values as a percentage per 100g of protein.

As the product is not made up of 100% of protein but rather 82.4%, we took the calculator and calculated the value of BCAA's for each 100g of product.

The result?

18.86g of BCAA's for every 100g of TPW Whey Protein 80.

Without a doubt, very good value!

Let's compare it to two supplements in the same category: Impact Whey It is Gold Standard, from Myprotein and Optimum Nutrition respectively.

Whey Protein 80 Impact Whey Gold Standard
Total Protein 82.4g 82g 81.6g
BCAA's/100g 18.86g 18.77g 18.71g

This supplement is equivalent to both Impact Whey such as Gold Standard, and if you read the analyzes we did on each of them, you know that they are two proteins of excellent quality!

Therefore, in terms of quality, this is clearly a very good supplement.

Total cost

51.19?

These are the prices for Whey Protein 80 on The Protein Works website, and looking at the last table, we see that a shake of this supplement costs just 0.32?, in other words, it's cheap!

Obviously, we will place these prices next to the same proteins that we used to evaluate the quality of this product.

Whey Protein 80 2kg Impact Whey 2.5kg Gold Standard 2.27kg
Doses 80 100 77
Cost per dose 0.37? 0.31 ? 0.75?
Total cost 30.07? 30.89? 58.00?

The low cost of this supplement stands out compared to the Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard, however, compared to Impact Whey from Myprotein, falls a little behind, as the total cost is practically the same, but with 500g less product, which is reflected in the cost per dose.

However, it still has a very attractive price.

Conclusion

Whey Protein 80 from The Protein Works is a very interesting supplement, with a very good protein content for a concentrated whey (82.4%), with an impressive amount of BCAA's and a price that will make anyone who is used to paying suspicious. 50? at 60? by protein supplements.

Loses a little to Impact Whey from Myprotein in price as you can see in the review, but it beats most of the supplements on the market, as we can see by comparing it with the Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard.

In short, after Impact Whey It is probably the second best choice in terms of price/quality for those looking for a quality concentrated whey supplement.

  1. Good,
The article about the product is quite interesting.
How is the value of 18.86g of BCAAs calculated per 100g?
    Thank you and best regards

      1. Good,
Thank you very much for responding.
I would like to take this opportunity to ask if there is any article of yours that explains what types of fats are (saturated, cholesterol, etc...) and other standard information that is on the labels of whey packaging. For example, what type of fats or cholesterol are we talking about (good or bad) or what influence this may have on practitioners and consumers.
I ask this question, since many products sold have some concentrations of trans and other saturated fats that, experts say, should be avoided.
Thank you for your help and greetings.
        André S.

        1. We don't yet have any articles that go into depth on this topic, but the only fat that you should actually avoid as they have no useful role in the body is trans :)
