Myprotein Impact Whey – Review

For the first time, we are going to analyze a whey protein and we are starting with one that is gaining many followers in Portugal, it is Impact Whey from the Myprotein brand.

The review will be of the unflavored version, so there are some differences compared to the flavored versions of this protein, both in terms of price, composition and nutritional values.

This supplement, as the name suggests, is a whey protein, that is, a whey protein, and is composed only of concentrated whey protein.

It is available in 1kg, 2.5kg and 5kg bags for €14.89, €30.89 and €54.89 respectively.

For those who are familiar with the prices of whey supplements, it is easy to see that this is a very interesting value.

However, it is increasingly common to see low-priced proteins that sacrifice product quality, so we decided to pick up a 2.5kg bag of this protein and take a look.

Is Myprotein Impact Whey worth it?

Impact Whey Presentation

The version we have for review is the 2.5kg version, however, they all come in bags.

For those who usually buy protein supplements from well-known brands, you are probably used to the traditional protein bucket, however, the bag is equally convenient and easy to transport.

Inside the bag we found a scoop and luckily we didn't have to go very deep until it appeared. Luck, perhaps.

Impact Whey is creamy as we can see in the image below.

Myprotein Impact Whey
Yes…half of it is already gone!

Nutritional value

So let's get to what really matters, if we weren't talking about a nutritional supplement.

The values of this protein from Myprotein are quite interesting, mainly because it is a concentrated protein and not an isolated one.

25g 100g
Protein 20.5g 82g
Carbohydrates 1.5g 6g
Fats 1.7g 6.8g

Each scoop contains an average of 25g, meaning that if we use one scoop to make our shake we will have 20.5g of protein, practically the same as a small/medium chicken steak.

If we look at the values per 100g, we see that Impact Whey is made up of 82% of protein, an excellent value for a concentrated whey supplement.

There is little to say about the carbohydrate or fat values since they are so low, 1.5g and 1.7g respectively per shake.

Looking in more detail, we look at the ingredients and see that this formula only uses concentrated whey protein and an emulsifier.

In other words, only what matters without unnecessary additions.

Aminogram

Aminogram of Impact Whey from Myprotein
Aminogram

Looking at the aminogram, we see that for each 100g temos 18,77g de BCAA’s e 4,7g por cada scoop (25g).

Os BCAA’s são os aminoácidos com o maior impacto na síntese proteica e para pormos estes valores em perspectiva, comparamos a Impact Whey à proteína mais vendida a nível mundial, a Whey Gold Standard from Optimum Nutrition.

Comparative

Impact Whey Gold Standard Whey ON
Total Protein/100g 82g 81.6g
BCAA’s/100g 18.77g 18.71g

Looking at the table we see that both proteins have practically the same amount of protein and BCAA's.

Em termos nutricionais é claramente uma excelente proteína, com um alto valor de proteína e BCAA’s.

Flavor

This is where the biggest problem lies, not only with this supplement, but with any unflavored protein.

A Impact Whey without flavor it tastes bad.

Although taste is always subjective, hardly anyone will praise the taste of this supplement and, the first few times it requires a little effort to drink it (and probably a grimace too).

As whey protein is usually used after training in combination with carbohydrates, we tried two homemade mixes: one version with banana and another with Nesquik powder.

Both smoothies were nice.

You still have two other alternatives.

A Flavored Impact Whey or the popular ones FlavDrops, which are drops that you can add to any supplement to give it a pleasant flavor.

Anyone who drinks this protein without anything added will probably turn their nose up at it the first few times, however, the fact that it has no flavor is excellent for those who want to make mixes.

Price

This is where this supplement really stands out, as it has a price that is much lower than the average price found in the best-known brands.

1kg 2.5kg 5kg
Doses 40 100 200
Cost per dose €0.37 €0.31 €0.27
Cost 100g/protein* €1.81 €1.50 €1.33
Total cost 14.89 30.89 54.89

The cost per 100g of protein refers to the amount paid for each 100g of actual protein.

Whereas the cost per serving refers to the cost for each scoop, in this case 25g and which contains 20.5g of real protein.

The cost per 100g of protein refers not to 100g of product but to 100g of protein itself.

In the 2.5kg version, each dose costs just 31 cents.

To put these values into perspective, let's compare this supplement again to whey from Optimum Nutrition, since they are nutritionally very similar.

Given that the average price for 2.2kg of ON protein is €60, each dose costs on average 78 cents, which is more than double.

Finally, it is interesting to look at the value for each 100g of protein, which is just €1.50 in the case of the 2.5kg format, and €1.33 in the 5kg version.

We just say that because in the case of Optimum Nutrition protein, the price per 100g of protein is €3.12!

Myprotein Impact Whey

Conclusion

A Impact Whey tem uma excelente percentagem de proteína (82%), com uma enorme quantidade de BCAA’s (18,7%), sendo portanto do ponto de vista nutricional uma excelente escolha.

Furthermore, it is probably the protein with the best quality/price ratio currently available on the market.

The only downside is the taste, although this is something that happens with any protein supplement without added flavor.

You can find the analysis of the flavored version here.

For those looking for quality protein at a good price, this is an excellent choice.

  1. I am very happy with MyProtein. I have always used Impact Whey Protein Plus, where the only difference is the addition of a multivitamin, and I recently ordered Whey Protein Isolate. However, I ordered both with a mild chocolate flavor, which I recommend, although the brand warns that when you order a flavored version, the nutritional values indicated are lower. I also consume omegas from the same brand, they are from Puremax. I recommend it!

  2. Good evening! You mentioned that you take protein with Nesquick, is this a good option after weight training or athletics? In fact, this protein is excellent, I like the neutral flavor, but for those who don't like it, you can add cinnamon or a little honey or natural jelly.

Hello friend, can I buy from this website, is it reliable? Do you have any suggestions? I'll wait and thank you.

        1. ginasiovirtual.com

Hi Luiz, it depends on whether you are in Portugal or Brazil, as this site only sells in Portugal.

  3. ruth rodrigues de paula

I wanted to buy it but I saw it for a kilo but then they said it couldn't be sold. I wanted to buy a lot of things but it was too expensive, so I gave up.

  4. Excellent review, thank you. Now one small question… On the MyProtein website they say it doesn't come with a scoop.
“1 large plastic MP measure weighs 25 g. (not included)”
Is this something that has changed recently, or is it a bug?

    1. Hi John,
It actually says that on the website, which is weird, I just opened a 5kg bag to confirm and the scoop was there, as always..

      1. Good afternoon,
Check it out, my bag of Impact Whey with Mocha flavor arrived today and it comes with a beautiful blue scoop. Smell it, it smells really good, tomorrow I'll leave you my opinion on the Impact flavor post!

  5. Good,
I use a digital scale for nutritional reference. I have always consumed MyProtein's Impact Whey, and I only get 25 grams if I use 2 scoops. I have tested it several times, so I always consume two scoops since I switched to this brand. Am I consuming too much?

    1. Hi Bruno, that's weird..
I went to test it to confirm and it gave me between 24g and 25g.
Is the scoop you use the one that came with the supplement?

      1. Good,
You're right, I've never used the blue scoop because the measurement marked on the line is 50, and since the bag warns that the scoop does not correspond to the real measurement, I associated the 50 with grams without checking. I use another scoop that I already had from another brand. I checked the blue one today and in fact 1 scoop is 25 grams, as described. I looked at it and it did look like a skip cup to me and I always thought it wasn't that measurement, so I used what I was used to. That being said, it's actually simpler.
        Clarified, thank you,

Ps The scoop is huge compared to others..

      2. Rita Vasconcelos

Hello! My question is exactly the same as Bruno's. Since the post is a while old, I'll rephrase it: I bought a 1kg package of this whey. I opened the bag and saw the blue scoop. I was happy to prepare the protein with a full scoop and drink it. When I finished, I noticed that, inside the scoop, there were lines with values, and the value corresponding to the entire scoop was 70. I thought "fantastic, I took 70 grams of whey in one go". Like Bruno, I also saw it written on the bag that the whey does not come with a 25g scoop. Since I don't have a kitchen scale, I couldn't confirm this. After all, what are those values that appear on the scoop? Should I ignore them and assume that the scoop has 25g?

        Thanks!!

        1. Hi Rita,
The measurements on the scoop are for measuring water, where 70 refers to 70ml, and yes, each scoop has approximately 25g of whey :)

  6. Valdeir Luiz da Silva

Hello, excuse my ignorance but do you know of any store that ships this product to Brazil.

    I thank.

  7. Good afternoon GV,

Just one question, since this whey is very good and has a good amount of BCAA, is it necessary to supplement with BCAA separately, or is this whey alone enough? I tried unflavored BCAA (powder) and I really can't drink it.

    Thanks.

    Nuno

    1. ginasiovirtual.com

      Hi Nuno.

In most cases there is no great advantage in using BCAA's when you are already using a good whey protein, so yes, you will probably be fine with just the protein shake :)

      1. Roberto Vieira

It is true that Impact Whey Protein is one of the best wheys on the market. It is no coincidence that it is ranked 8th in the Labdoor Laboratory protein ranking, with the Whey Isolate My Protein in 3rd place and the Iso Pro My Protein in 1st place. I am more undecided between buying Whey Isolate or Iso Pro. Do these last 2 proteins contain glutamine? Although I have been training for many years, I have never been a big fan of supplements. But there were times when I would take protein for 2 or 3 months, only on the days I trained and after training (3 to 4 training sessions per week). I have not taken it for 4 years. But now I am going to invest in a good whey isolate and perhaps something else. And here my doubts arise about what to buy to complement the whey?

        1. ginasiovirtual.com

          Hi Roberto.

It really depends on your goals.
If you want to gain muscle mass, Creatine, for example, is a good bet.

  8. hello!
Does this supplement increase muscle mass??
And can I also take MALTODEXTRIN even when taking Impact Whey???

    1. ginasiovirtual.com

Hi Jorge, this supplement is just a protein. It helps, but you need a good diet to go with it.

And yes, if you want, you can use Maltodextrin while using Impact Whey.

  9. I was reading the article and I noticed that it refers to 82g of protein per 100g, just like on the My Protein website, what is true is that the bag I received, in the description only mentions 75g/100, as well as the remaining ingredients have changes...

    1. ginasiovirtual.com

Yes, it's normal, you can find the reason at the beginning of the article.

“The review will be of the unflavored version, so there are some differences compared to the flavored versions of this protein, both in terms of price, composition and nutritional values.”

Here is a comparison between the flavored version (strawberry) and the unflavored version: https://ginasiovirtual.mystagingwebsite.com/impact-whey-com-sabor/

  10. Hello, good article. But prices are quite outdated today.
Example: the price of 2.5kg is €37, and just in case we have a discount code

    1. ginasiovirtual.com

      Hello John.
Thanks for the comment, and unfortunately, yes. It is out of date.

This, the other reviews and especially the top one, which are on the pending list with some dust already.

Out of curiosity, despite the increase in prices in general, has the quality/price “panorama” changed much between brands?

I had the idea that it wasn't, but I could be wrong.

  11. At the moment, the cheapest flavored versions of this protein are €55 with all discounts for 2.5kg. These are the times we live in, and yet this protein is at an extremely competitive price compared to the rest of the market. So I decided to buy it and I'll try it when it arrives. However, if it was already at €37, those are really VERY good prices.

Very good review, I'm looking forward to trying mine!

    1. ginasiovirtual.com

Unfortunately, the lack of time does not allow us to do more than keep the website online and without problems.
On the other hand, it is undoubtedly interesting to compare prices before and now.
It would even make an interesting article.
Thanks for the comment Miguel and I hope you like the protein :)
