Biotech Iso Whey Zero – Analysis

.

Is Iso Whey Zero a good protein?

Biotech USA is a popular brand in gyms in Portugal, and among its various protein products, Iso Whey Zero is probably the best known.

But popular doesn't always mean good, and in this case, does this apply?

More or less.

First of all, it is presented as a high quality Whey Isolate product, according to the official website, and is available in various sizes and various flavors.

In addition to Whey Isolate, this supplement also has added amino acids, which is usually not good news.

So let's analyze this supplement, starting with the most important thing, the ingredients.

Ingredients

This supplement has already changed its formula, and to collect data on the current version, we used the information available on the official Biotech USA website for Portugal.

Attention, in some stores you will still find the old version, or at least the data from the previous version.

To consult the complete table of ingredients for this product, click here.

The protein source in this supplement is called ?Iso Whey Zero Blend? and makes up 88% of the total product.

What's inside?

Within this mixture you will find Isolated Whey Protein, and then, a so-called amino acid complex. Basically a mixture, within a mixture.

In this amino acid complex are L-Arginine, L-Glutamine, L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine and L-Valine.

In other words, the protein in this supplement is not exclusively Whey Isolate, but the brand itself mentions this on its official page.

Then, you find a curious ingredient, presented as a flavor enhancer.

This flavor enhancer is Glycine, a non-essential amino acid.

We won't dwell too much on this subject for now, as we have already done so in previous analyses, as in the case of Whey Prime 2.0 that you can find here.

Finally, depending on the flavor you choose, you have different ingredients, such as flavorings, sweeteners, etc.

Nutritional table

Biotech USA Iso Whey Zero Nutritional Table

You will find the complete official nutritional table here.

It is in the nutritional table that this supplement starts to get really interesting.

As in the case of Xcore Whey Hydro Isolate SS, the percentage of total protein in this supplement (88%) is exactly equal to the total percentage of ingredients used as a source of protein.

For this to be possible, all ingredients in the mixture would have to be 100% protein/amino acids, which is not the case.

Whey Isolate, as good as it is, is not 100% protein.

So how does the Iso Whey Zero Can you reach 88% protein?

Glycine (again)

While Xcore in its Whey Hydro Isolate SS chose to use Creatine, Biotech USA discreetly invested in Glycine to increase the protein content of Iso Whey Zero.

By placing Glycine as a flavor enhancer, and outside the Iso Whey Zero Blend, it makes it possible for this supplement to actually reach 88% of protein.

The problem is that part of this protein is not Whey, it is not Whey Isolate and much less is it complete protein.

They are amino acids.

And some of them are not even essential, such as Glycine, Glutamine and Arginine.

What does this mean?

You are purchasing a Whey Protein Isolate supplement, which is not 100% Whey Protein Isolate.

What is the percentage of Whey Protein Isolate?

Good question, but no answer.

Biotech USA does not reveal the percentage of Whey Isolate, and as if that were not enough, it does not present an aminogram for this product.

The only data that the brand reveals in relation to amino acids are BCAAs, which are theoretically 19.6%.

Pricing

The values shown are those practiced by the Prozis store at the date of analysis, and are therefore always subject to change.

Each shake has 22g of “protein”, and the value varies between 0.79? per dose in the 500g version and 0.64? in larger format.

What does this mean? Is it a good or bad price?

It is a normal price for a quality isolated protein.

The problem is that we don't know exactly what we are buying.

90% Whey Isolate with 10% amino acids?

50% Whey Isolate with 50% amino acids?

If it's the first hypothesis, it's good, if it's the second, no.

Verdict

Biotech USA has a curious supplement here.

What exactly are we buying? We do not know.

However, at first glance, it appears to be a quality supplement and easy to recommend.

In fact, we did it ourselves here.

The addition of amino acids to protein supplements is common, and although not desirable, it is not always a big problem.

An example of this is the Isogreat from Scitec Nutrition.

Scitec added L-Glutamine and L-Arginine to the Isogreat formula, however, it presents the aminogram of its product, we know what we are buying, and we can confirm that it is a good supplement.

In the case of the Iso Whey Zero, there is no aminogram, just the information that there are some added amino acids and a questionable flavor enhancer.

Is it a bad supplement? No.

It is most likely a protein of quite acceptable quality, but when presented as a high quality Whey Isolate, it is not at the level of competition from Isogreat or Iso:Pro, although the price is quite similar.

It's difficult to evaluate, and it's partly because of these types of formulas that lately we haven't been assigning the typical stars.

But yes, it's possible it was a 3/3.5.
