5-HTP means 5-Hydroxytryptophan, or also known as oxytriptan.
It is an amino acid and is a precursor of serotonin, being very effective in increasing the levels of this neurotransmitter.
What does 5-HTP do?
Bearing in mind that the mechanism of operation of 5-HTP is based simply on the increase of serotonin, it is important to know the role of this neurotransmitter and what its functions are.
Serotonin is responsible for regulating various functions in the body, from sleep to appetite and going through well-being.
Low levels of serotonin are associated with depression, insomnia and so-called “cravings”, that is, the desire to eat sweets.
5-HTP works by increasing this neurotransmitter and is a useful tool in weight loss diets as it promotes satiety and makes it easier to control foods that are consumed.
In addition, hypocaloric diets are associated with mood swings and sometimes difficulties falling asleep, this supplement, by promoting the increase in serotonin levels, manages to maintain a more stable mood and a feeling of relaxation that can help to fight insomnia and a general well-being.
How is 5-HTP taken?
Ideally, start 5-HTP on an empty stomach before bed with a dose of 100mg that can be increased to 200mg.
Another method of use is to spread the doses throughout the day up to three times to control your appetite, however, it is possible that this method will make you sleepy.
Obs. It is normal to have more intense dreams while taking 5-HTP as this supplement makes your sleep more profound.
