Concentrated Whey vs Isolated Whey, which is the best choice?
The Protein whey it is undoubtedly the most well-known and used supplement by those who walk in the gym, and not only.
But in addition to there being dozens of different brands and products, there are also different types of Whey.
There is Whey Concentrate, Whey Isolate and also Hydrolyzed Whey.

So, between Whey Protein Concentrate and Whey Protein Isolate, which is the best buy?
Is it worth paying more for Protein Isolate?
This is the cheapest and most common way.
It is produced by ultrafiltration of whey and normally offers protein concentrations between 70% and 80%, thus also bringing some carbohydrates (lactose) and fats.
Since the concentration of this protein is normally around 70-80%, it means that for every 100g we have on average between 70 to 80 grams of pure protein, which is a very good value.
In addition, it has a high amount of BCAA's and other essential amino acids and is easily and quickly absorbed.
The isolated form is basically an improved version of the concentrate.
It can be produced using various filtration techniques and achieves protein values in the range of 85-95%, which is excellent.
In addition, due to greater filtration, the values of fat and carbohydrates are very low, reaching zero, eliminating lactose.
For example, in a protein with 90% of concentration, we have 90g of high quality protein for every 100g.
Concentrated Whey or Isolated Whey?
Concentrated Whey is the most economical whey supplement and is usually well tolerated.
Depending on the concentration, it is an excellent option for those who do not want to spend a lot of money, but still have a quality protein supplement.
In the case of Whey Protein Isolate, the protein concentration is higher, and therefore, the amount of amino acids as well.
Not only does it have a percentage of BCAA's slightly higher, the amount of carbohydrates and fats is lower, and in some cases zero.
What do I buy then?
The simple answer in most cases is Whey Concentrate.
A good supplement of Concentrated Whey is around 80% of quality protein, with 17-19% of BCAA's and a cost for each 100g of protein from about € 1.50 to € 2.50.

But I’m drying, isn’t the Protein Isolate better?
While a Concentrate brings on average about 1g to 3g of carbohydrates per shake, an Isolated one usually ranges between 0g and 2g, depending on the price you are willing to pay.
In the case of fat, the Isolate on average has less than 1g, while the Concentrate usually brings between 1 to 2g per shake.
The difference is simply too small to have any impact on fat loss, even if you use more than one shake a day.
Do you mean that Isolada is not worth it?
Concentrate is undoubtedly the best option when we consider the quality / price ratio, however, if we look only at quality, Isolada wins.
Not only has less carbohydrates and fats, but the amount of protein is greater, and as such, more amino acids and BCAA's.
You can also use a smaller amount of the supplement to get the protein you want, which ultimately reduces the cost.
In addition, people with lactose intolerance find Whey Isolate a good option, as several supplements are lactose-free.
So what about mixtures? Are better?
There are several supplements, like the famous Whey Gold Standard from Optimum Nutrition, which combine Isolate, Concentrate and some Hydrolyzed.
An Isolated Whey Protein combined with a Concentrate, will be better than a Concentrate only, if it is of good quality.
But a supplement of Whey Isolate will always be better than a mixture of these two.
In the specific case of Optimum Nutrition's Whey, it can be said that it is an intermediary between Isolada and Concentrated, which is why it is difficult to justify its price. Basically, it's good ... for marketing.
Don't forget to look at the label, as these types of supplements are more likely to use added amino acids, such as Glycine, Taurine or Creatine, which lowers the quality of the supplement.
Whey Protein Concentrate is the best supplement in terms of quality/price, while Whey Protein Isolate is the best supplement if we only look at quality.
At the level of results, unless you are lactose intolerant, or in preparation for a competition, they will be similar, so Concentrated is the best option in most cases.
The biggest difference between them is the price, and if money is not a problem for you, choose Isolada.
Just don't wait for better results than your friend who stayed for the good quality Concentrate at half the price for that.
